HOMOEOPATHIC MANAGEMENT IN COCCIDIOSIS

Coccidiosis is a disease condition caused by infection with one or more of the many species of coccidia. In this we can talk about the homoeopathic management in coccidiosis.

Etiology

coccidia are host specific, i.e, coccidia from domestic poultry  donot affect turkeys and other animals.

MODE OF TRANSMISSION:

Faecal-oral route of transmission.

unsporulated oocysts from infected or carrier birds are excreted, outside animal body they mature into sporulated infectious oocysts.

sporulation requires warmth, moisture and oxygen; under optimal environment it takes 1-2 days.

shoes, hands, cages causes transmission.

defective feeders and wateres allow birds to defecate in them.

nibbling of litters due to inadequate feeding.

SYMPTOMS:

birds droop their wings, lack vigour- early stages of disease.

paleness, ruffled feathers, general unthriftness, dysentery, diarrhoea or soft mucoid faeces, loss of yellowish color of shanks and sometimes blood tinged droppings.

sudden increase in daily mortality rate with pathogenic species.

DIAGNOSIS:

Clinical signs: diarrhoea with or without blood, inappetance and emaciation.

Faecal examination: presence of large no. of oocysts.

Post-mortem examination: pinpoint haemorrhages  and white foci in the walls of intestine and caeca.

HOMOEOPATHIC MANAGEMENT:

Merc sol: it is the head remedy for coccidiosis. Greenish, bloody and slimy worse at night, with pain and tenesmus. Whitish-gray stools.

Ipecac: stools- brown, grass or yellow green, frothy, molasses like bloody; slimy. Bird listless.

Merc cor: stools- painful, scanty, bloody, greenish, slimy, ashen white, acrid. Listless.

Chelidonium: pale comb, lack of appetite, stools; pasty, bright yellow, clayey.

Nuv vom: lack of appetite, pale comb, dysentery; stool amel. Pains for a while.
